The South African Railways Class MC 2-6-6-0 of 1912 is a South African steam locomotive from the South African Railways era. In 1912 the South African Railways placed ten Class MC Mallet articulated compound steam locomotives with a 2-6-6-0 wheel arrangement in service.〔Classification of S.A.R. Engines with Renumbering Lists, issued by the Chief Mechanical Engineer’s Office, Pretoria, January 1912, pp. 9, 12, 15, 46 (Reprinted in April 1987 by SATS Museum, R.3125-6/9/11-1000)〕 ==Manufacturer== In order to augment the Mallet locomotive fleet operating across the more difficult sections of the Natal mainline, the South African Railways (SAR) placed an order with the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) for ten locomotives that were very similar to the Class MB. They were delivered and placed in service in May 1912, classified as Class MC and numbered in the range from 1607 to 1616.〔〔〔〔North British Locomotive Company works list, compiled by Austrian locomotive historian Bernhard Schmeiser〕
